BOE Minutes 2-8-10 & 2-9-10

There was a special board meeting called on February 9 to deal with one item. There was an oil company that protested their taxes in Clark County. It has been settled, but bottom line is that it will reduce our budget from Clark County by another $122,514.62 of which $59,564.19 (General Funds) will be made up by the State at the end as they have funds. The rest will not be picked up in any way. $11,912.84 from Capital Outlay, $45,736.37 from Local Option Budget (Supplemental General) and $5,301.22 from Recreation Commission.
After contacting lawyers and legislators, it was decided the best avenue at this point was to write a letter to Representative Neufeld and try to get it introduced that the oil companies have to protest in April as the notices are sent out instead of with payment in December or May so it does not disrupt the budgets of so many service providers such as the Schools, County, Hospitals, etc.
In order for our Board Chairman and superintendent to sign a letter, it had to go before the board and be voted on. Therefore, a very short special meeting was called and the letter approved.
