Off They Go!
Your Kindergarten student is about to encounter a time of challenge
and adjustment. The demands of this experience will leave him/her
exhausted and maybe even frustrated. You can help him/her make
sense of his/her day through communication. Listen and be
supportive. Encourage your child to talk and ask questions!
During this time of adjustment, a routine bedtime, a healthy
breakfast, and some time to “unwind” after school will be very
important. Moderate exercise (like taking a walk) can be helpful.
Set aside time every evening to read aloud, even if it is just for
a short period. Most importantly, be consistent as you develop a
new routine. Your child will be more successful at school when an
evening routine has been established.

Parents Are Teachers Too!
There are many things you can help your child learn by practicing
at home! Our new Kindergarten Grade Card is aligned with state
standards and includes a list of items the Kindergarten student
should be learning at home with the help of his/her parents. You
will even be given the opportunity to mark the grade card as these
skills are learned! Here is a sneak-peak at the list:
The student knows-
• Full name
• Age
• Birthday (including year of birth)
• Telephone number
• Address
• Left hand and right hand
• Ties shoes
• Days of the week
• Months of the year
Of course, these items will be practiced in the classroom too, but
your support at home will be most beneficial to your student!
