October 23, 2008
The Bucklin Junior High volleyball team competed in the League
Tournament
hosted in Bucklin on Monday, October 20th. The Lady Deuces were
seeded
third with a 3-2 record. Ashland had the #1 seed at 5-0 and
Greensburg was
the second seed at 3-2.
The Deuces opened pool play against the South Central Timberwolves.
A new
lineup was on the floor as two regular season players were absent.
Nerves
seemed to dominate the game early as the Deuces fell behind in game
one 1 –
11. Although they continued to play hard they couldn’t make up the
large
deficit and lost game 1, 18-25. In the second game they were more
focused
to play and won (25-19) on a late scoring run by 8th grader Kaysha
.The 3rd and decisive game was a close contest with the Deuces
losing by a
score of 17-25.
Ten minutes following their opening match, the Deuces had to play
another
game, this time against the Greensburg Rangers. The Deuces knew
they had to
win in order to have a shot at the championship match. They came
out ready
to play and won the opening game 25 – 23 behind the 6 services
points of
Madison. The second game was also close (14-18) when the
Rangers
went on a 7-point scoring run to close out the game 14 – 25. Mental
and
physical fatigue set in and in game three of the match the Deuces
were
defeated 10-25.
The Deuces concluded their season with a 4-5 record. Ten 8th
graders played
their final match as a Lady Deuce Monday night.
