5-12 Parents' Letter

Dear Parents,

At this time we are in a transition period due to the new locks being installed on the school districts outer doors.  During the school hours, each employee is responsible for the well being of our students.  The students are most important possession of each family.  The district becomes liable for the welfare of the students during school hours.

I would like to explain the situations with the locked and unlocked doors at Bucklin Schools.  The west doors at the south end of the elementary building will always be locked.  The main entrance to the elementary building will have doors unlocked until our 8:15 am bell rings for classes to start, at that time these doors will also be locked.  If a student comes to school after 8:15 am they will need to enter the building through the main high school west door and report to the office to check in and pick up their admit slip.  This main entrance to the elementary building will be unlocked at the end of our school day. The doors at the north and west ends of the middle school will be locked at 8:15 and will remain locked. The main high school doors will be locked at 8:15, with the exception of the south main door. It will remain unlocked.

As one of the building administrators, I have been working with the elementary principal and superintendent on the completion of the district crisis plan for safety purposes.  We realize this is a change for parents and guardians, but our student’s well being is the purpose for this change.

Thank you,

Timothy Dusin

5-12 Principal
