Mrs. Dusin and her 1st Grade Class

First Grade Butterfly Project

by Melissa Dusin

June 03, 2008

The First Graders hatched butterflies during the last few weeks of school.
10 Painted Lady Caterpillars were ordered and the class was able to see them
grow for about a week. Their food was already with them in the jars, so we
didn’t have to feed them at all! After about a week, they started to spin
their chrysalis and the caterpillars were in that for about a week and a
half. All 10 of the butterflies hatched which was a great success rate! We
fed the butterflies oranges and sugar water because they like sweet foods.
The class let the butterflies go at the park so they could live outside of
their netted garden for awhile. First Grade Butterfly Project
